OCT 30 Camino de ánimas (Cemetery tour and mass)
The festival began on October 30. The cemetery entrance was beautifully decorated with cempasúchil flowers. The tour took us to the cemetery, where a mass was celebrated in honor of our dead. The words of the priest filled those who attended with nostalgia and joy. The moment became even more emotional when we found ourselves surrounded by both loved ones and those who have been forgotten. We received their blessing, and the graves were also blessed, many of them clean and adorned with flowers and objects meaningful to the deceased. deceased.
OCT 31 TRICK OR TRICK (Hotel and restaurant route)
At Hotel Villa de Pescadores we participated as every year in the Trick or Treat Route.
It is a nice and innocent experience for the little ones who live in Río Lagartos as well as for the tourists who visit us at this time.
We had help from our team in decorating our candy stand and also one of our Hermes Cats who accompanied us until the children arrived. This year we saw more children in costume and we thank the mothers for being so creative in dressing them up.
01 NOV Night to Remember (altar contest)
The penultimate day of the festival was dedicated to the altars of Hanal Pixán, a Yucatecan tradition that allows us to honor our loved ones and maintain that connection with them, even after death.
We were able to admire altars created by children from preschool, elementary school, COBAY, among others. Each one had its own special touch, but all included the essential elements of an altar of the dead: copal, banana leaves, bread of the dead, sugar skulls and, of course, a photograph of the people being honored.
It is an experience full of love and nostalgia that unites us, especially on these dates when memory and emotion are so present.
The festival concluded with a charming jarana dance, performed by children dressed in traditional Yucatecan suits and huipiles. Seeing the little ones proudly wearing their traditional costumes and dancing to the rhythm of the jarana was a perfect ending, full of color, joy and pride in our roots. It was a special moment that reflected the richness of our traditions and the love with which we transmit them to the new generations.
02 NOV Pixan procession along the estuary (boat ride and costume contest)
The last day, the most anticipated of all, began at the Chiquilá Spa, where all the decorated boats, the people dressed in the traditional Yucatecan suit and those who had dressed up for the contest gathered. We were joined by the Secretary of Tourism, Darío Flora, and his team, as well as the collaboration of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Rio Lagartos and the team from the City Council of the municipality of Río Lagartos.
We set sail for Pier T, and during the tour, the atmosphere was full of lights, live music and people proud of our traditions. It was an experience that we look forward to every year.
Villa de Pescadores also participated with our own boat, taking our clients and friends who enjoyed a splendid evening.
Upon arriving at the pier, we were greeted by a crowd eagerly awaiting the start of the repertoire. First, the Mayan Warriors delighted us with a dance that transported us to the celebrations of Mayan culture. Then, the long-awaited costume contest began, with children's and general categories, where this year creativity surprised everyone with costumes such as the Waychivo, the Catrina altar of the dead, among others.
While the winners were being chosen, we enjoyed the youth dances and the Panaba children's dance, which added more color and excitement to the evening.
The event ended up being a unique experience, full of tradition, joy and a deep sense of community. A perfect ending to an unforgettable festival!
Next year, if you would like to be part of this incredible, magical and traditional experience, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information. It will be an honor to have you at this celebration that unites everyone around our customs and traditions!
